Maca: a root from the Andes
Maca grows in the Peruvian Andes. The root has long been used there as food and is known for its different colours. This formula brings several colours together.
Maca is traditionally used for energy and endurance. Its use to support libido, or sexual desire, has also made the herb well known. This makes maca appealing to people who pay attention to their vitality.
It is the root of Lepidium meyenii. It naturally contains various plant compounds, including glucosinolates. These compounds also occur in other plants in the cabbage family, to which maca belongs.
What does camu camu add?
Camu camu is a berry from the Amazon region. In Maca Alive, the fruit is combined with maca root. This gives the formula a fruit ingredient alongside a root ingredient.
The berry naturally contains vitamin C and other antioxidants. Antioxidants can neutralise free radicals: particles that can damage cells. The combination of these compounds makes camu camu interesting as part of a varied diet.
Two preparations of maca
Some of the maca is fermented with cultures from kefir and kombucha. Bacteria and yeasts convert substances in the root during this process.
After fermentation, the mixture is freeze-dried. Moisture is removed from the frozen mixture, leaving a dry powder.
The formula also contains gelatinised maca. In this process, the starch in the root changes through heating with moisture. This is a different preparation from fermentation, giving you two forms of maca in the same capsule.
The gelatinised blend consists of 80% black, 15% red-purple and 5% yellow maca. These percentages describe this blend, not the whole capsule.
What is in each capsule?
| Ingredient | Per capsule | Per day (2 capsules) |
|---|---|---|
| Fermented organic maca root | 140 mg | 280 mg |
| Organic gelatinised maca root | 140 mg | 280 mg |
| Organic camu camu fruit | 120 mg | 240 mg |
| Total | 400 mg | 800 mg |
The shell is made from plant cellulose. The ingredients list contains maca root, camu camu fruit and the capsule shell. No animal ingredients, gluten, soya or dairy have been added.
The three colours of maca give this formula its own character. There is no need to buy different bags of maca powder yourself or divide up the amounts.
How do you use the capsules?
For adults, take one to two capsules per day with a large glass of water. This can be with or without food. With one capsule, you use the amounts in the first column; with two capsules, those in the second.
Depending on your use, a jar lasts 30 to 60 days. The daily price is £0.47 - £0.93, calculated using the current selling price.
If you swallow the capsule whole, you do not have to add the taste of the powder to your food. This is pleasant when you like to keep your breakfast or favourite drink as it is.
